Make Over My Mouth Project 2012: Try an Encouragement Blitz

The Family

Here is a simple, fun way to encourage everyone in your family. Have an Encouragement Blitz! This is a good activity to play during a long car trip, at dinnertime, or during a family meeting.

  1. Each person gets to be the focus of an encouragement blitz. During that person’s turn his/her role is simply to listen without saying anything.
  2. For sixty seconds everyone else calls out all the things that they love, admire, or respect about the focus person.
  3. It is helpful to use “I” phrases. For instance: “I love your smile.” “I admire your perseverance,” “I appreciate your help with the dishes.”

I found this idea in a book called The Magic of Encouragement: Nurturing Your Child’s Self-Esteem by Stephanie Marston, but I think this idea could also be used by adults in a small group setting, like your Bible study group or a committee that you are working on.

Have fun with an Encouragement Blitz!
