In your everyday speech, what is the ratio between your life-giving words and heart-slaying comments? I recently read a book that told me there is a “magic ratio” of positive to negative comments.
“Experts in the field of positive psychology are finding that the frequency of small, positive interactions is very important. According to the research of John Gottman on marriage, this “magic ratio” of positive to negative is 5 to 1. Gottman claims that marriages are much more likely to succeed when spouses maintain the magic ratio; when it gets down to 1 to 1, there is a high likelihood of divorce.”

Interesting! Of course, we would like to be able to speak only positive comments. But being human, this is impossible.
